Whale Watching
The best time of year for orca whale watching on Vancouver Island is April through October. The Juan de Fuca and Haro Straits are home to three Resident orca whale pods, called J, K and L pods, which total nearly 100 orca.
We just recently "adopted" Lulu the Orca whale (L-53), through the Whale Museum which promotes stewardship of the whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research. Lulu loves to breach and is one of L pods most active whales - We can't wait to see her out there!
In addition to the Orca whales around Victoria BC, we often see Minke, Gray and Humpback whales, porpoise, Stellar and California sea lions, harbour seals, elephant seals, river & sea otters and a large variety of sea birds such as cormorants, bald eagles and puffins, to name only a few. Sighting success rates during this peak season can range up to 99 %. Despite the abundance of wildlife species, the orca whales remain a favourite of ours and our guests!
While on the water surrounding Victoria BC we love to show of the diverse abundance of wildlife that adorn our shores, but at all times remain respectful of the sensitive ecosystems that they call home.
My eco-tours can range from private small group tours, such as I offer through my Birds of a Feather waterfront B&B, to the public boats which can also be booked by myself at no extra charge to you, to ensure you will be on board a reputable tour in Victoria BC.
